Mission Statement

To promote equity and culturally responsive practices in early childhood relationships, environments, and systems that support Wisconsin’s youngest learners, their families, and the professionals who work with them. We are committed to:

  • Providing access to professional learning opportunities, resources, and tools that build equitable environments, opportunities, and partnerships.
  • Creating opportunities for self-reflection, connection, and support that inspire actionable steps toward diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Cultivating and advancing cross-sector & inter-agency collaborations committed to advancing equity.

Professional Development Minis

The following professional development “minis” are ready-to-go professional development opportunities that can be completed in 30 minutes to an hour. They have been specifically designed for teams but can also be modified to use for personal reflection and growth.  Early childhood professionals and those working with young children and their families are the intended audience, although any group could benefit from these discussions.

Everyday Diversity for Children: 55+ Kids’ Books for Preschool Through Primary Grades – A booklist showcasing diverse characters in everyday situations of contemporary life. These books show children interacting with clothes, toys, food, relatives, friends, fears, hopes, and all the other things that go along with being a human child. The message is that diverse children are all around us, and the books allow those children to see themselves mirrored in these books.

Implicit Bias Module SeriesThis course from the Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race & Ethnicity will introduce you to insights about how our minds operate and help you understand the origins of implicit associations. You will also uncover some of your own biases and learn strategies for addressing them. Each module is divided into a short series of lessons, many taking less than 10 minutes to complete.
